IHN
Interfaith Hospitality Network

          IHN unites congregations to assist homeless families.  Congregations provide accommodations and meals for 3-5 families for one week, every three months on a rotating schedule.

          Becoming a part of IHN in May of 2004, First Christian Church is a host congregation.  This means we are one of the churches that the families actually “live in” during the week.  We also have support congregations, Valley View UMC, and New Life Church.  The support congregations assist First Christian Church with volunteers and any other congregations in the Network when there has been a need.  A typical evening includes volunteers from these congregations working together to provide a safe and comfortable temporary home.  Without our volunteers this program would not be a success.

Costa Rica Mission Trips

          For 10 years we have been going to Costa Rica, specifically to our sister church La Paz de Dios, in Tres Rios.  Over 120 members and friends of First Christian have traveled to Costa Rica.  Over the years we have helped Tres Rios with several construction jobs, and taught crafts to women and children.  The mission trip in 2007 helped La Paz de Dios take up the concrete floor and lay a new ceramic tile floor in their Sanctuary.

Micah Ministries

          Our Men’s and Women’s Fellowship Groups go down to Independence Boulevard Christian Church on the 4th Monday of each month to help serve at Micah Ministries.  Occasionally, we bake cakes for their dinners.
